Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, located in the city of Etchmiadzin. According to most scholars it was the first cathedral built in ancient Armenia, and is often considered the oldest cathedral in the world.
A major pilgrimage site, it is one of the most visited places in the country.
In 2000 UNESCO added Etchmiadzin Cathedral to the list of World Heritage Sites.
The cathedral has undergone a number of renovations. Today, it incorporates styles of different periods of Armenian architecture.
