Tanahat Monastery is an 8th-century monastery located 7 km south-east of Vernashen village in the Vayots Dzor Province. “Gladzor University” have been here. This famous Armenian educational establishment of the XIII–XIV cc. was a center of religious, public-political, philosophical thought as well as a center of development of creative thought. In 1984 the monastic complex of Tanahat was restored on a world scale and according to the decision of the Government of Armenian SSR.
